The “Get Sh*t Done” Gear

Sometimes you just have to kick into “Get Sh*t Done” Gear. Do you have that gear? Can you just focus on what needs to be done, put your head down, and execute? We’re pretty good at that, most of the time–but many different factors can mess with our “Get Sh*t Done” gear. If things seem to be piling up on you, let’s walk through some scenarios that might help you get them done. 

Self Care

This may seem unrelated, but we find that if we are slipping on self care, it’s really hard to dive into a pile of “to-dos.” The temptation is to think we don’t have enough time for self care, because we have too much to get done. But if we take the time to do breathwork, meditate, take a cold shower, get a bit of exercise–or any combination thereof–we find we are infinitely more effective in our days. Without it, it’s like starting a cross-country car race without first getting a tune up. 

List making

It can be daunting to see the full list of tasks that need completion, but they’re not going away. Often when making a list, we find that a natural division starts to take place. Maybe some things just can’t be done today, maybe there are certain hours when some things need to get done, etc. A logical plan seems to unfold when we have the courage to make that list. 

Ask for help

Get yourself a “Get Sh*t Done” Buddy! An outside perspective from a friend is often the catalyst for kicking things into gear for us. Saying things aloud to a friend gives you built-in accountability. Work through your list with them.  Make a plan–specific times to complete each task. Then make a “bookend” call at the end of the day to report your successes. Commend each other for a job well done. 

Take breaks, get some exercise

You know this about us by now–but we believe in moving throughout the day.  Don’t sit down and try to power through an entire day without coming up for air.  Carry the concept of self-care with you throughout the day.  Get up, go outside, do some exercise, do some breathing–take another cold shower! Find a way to re-energize, then get back to it.
