How to not gain weight during the holidays

It’s time for the holidays. Time for family and time for a never-ending supply of delicious food—so here is the question—can you enjoy the holidays without gaining weight ? Well, in the Christmas spirit we’ll give you two options.

  1. A practical strategy that can be implemented during the holidays to mitigate the harmful effects of all the delicious foods.

  2. The coffee talker’s philosophical perspective on this matter

Let’s start with the philosophical approach. If you have read our blog and implemented our approaches during the year, then hopefully you’re in a place where you don’t dread the holidays that much. We preach that you move daily and implement a sustainable approach towards training, movement, and diet. Our recommendation is, therefore, that you keep on doing the same things as usual or give yourself some space to enjoy the holidays with your loved ones. Keep moving daily but go for a walk instead of doing the kettlebell swings—use this time to get a perspective on things and start planning what your goals are for the year to come. In short—enjoy life a bit more than usual—we promise that your belly won’t explode if you’ve done things right most of the year.

But if you want to enjoy Christmas and lose weight, then here’s the plan…

Fasting

This is the simplest and most sustainable way to get through the holidays without gaining weight. The nice meals, which you’re looking forward to are often in the evening. So, what you do is to not eat anything before that meal. Allowing yourself to stuff your face during and after dinner is what Christmas is all about, and the best way to do that, without too much of a caloric surplus, is to not eat breakfast and lunch. Treat yourself to a nice cup of coffee and go for a walk with or without your family. Drink lots of water during the day and focus on the things that matter. We guarantee, that the food and wine will taste like a piece of heaven after a day of fasting—and remember, you get to eat and drink whatever you want for the remainder of the day.

This approach keeps you from gaining too much weight and makes the food and wine even more enjoyable. So, the question then is—what do the coffee talkers do?

Well, in the spirit of this blog—we do a bit of both. The holidays are not the time to get fit or lean—it’s the time for family, friends, and gratitude. We try to maintain our daily routines, but not at the expense of the before mentioned values.

We try to enjoy life and build momentum for the year to come.

So, get a coffee, go for a walk, and allow yourself to enjoy yourself.

Merry Christmas
