Energy Healing

Today’s blog is going to be a little different. From the start of Coaching and Coffee Talks three years ago, Lennart and I fell comfortably into a groove of exploring and stating our values on a number of topics–from exercise to nutrition to psychology to philosophy. This article will be more of a diary of a recent experience I had with energy healing, during an online workshop organized by Center, a spiritual collective curated by Kenyon Phillips and Shirley Pinkson Manas. I hope it is of interest to you, dear reader, and piques your curiosity enough to try it yourself–if you haven’t already. It’s my personal belief that Energy Medicine is the future of medicine itself.

When I logged into the meeting, I saw a small group of people, most of whom I knew, and the woman who would lead the workshop, Kristen Hough, a certified Emotion Code practitioner and owner of Operhearted Energy Healing, just outside of Boston, MA. She had a very calm demeanor, and in retrospect, I realized I instantly trusted her with leading us on this journey. I recently had been reading Joe Dispenza’s Supernatural, which is a kind of guidebook to healing oneself through balancing energy centers in the body. Dispenza goes to great effort to back up as much as he can with scientific research or quantum theory, and marries that with ancient traditions that have been practiced for thousands of years. I had been doing Dispenza’s suggested meditations that clear and balance energy centers, and had really felt the difference in my feeling of calm and balance.  So, I really jumped at the chance to talk to a real energy healer during the workshop. I was sure she would recognize that my energy was looking pretty darn good.

After her first look at us she stated, “One of you has a reversed polarity, so we’re just going to work on that a bit…” Yup, it was me. A dose of energy healing humility. Ok, so I’m reversed, upside down, and a mess.  I better focus.

We then talked a bit about New Year’s resolutions, and I was happy to hear that Kristen is pretty much against the idea. She did, however, ask each of us to formulate an idea of how we wanted to show up for ourselves in the coming year, whether it be personally or professionally. She then read our energy fields for various trapped emotions that we had that were blocking us from living the lives we so wanted to live.

Although this was a pretty diverse group, it was so clear that everyone was struggling with the same basic human challenges: stress, anxiety, shame, and depression–all rooted in past trauma and painful memories of past events. It seemed that many of us found it challenging to believe that we deserved the good things we were hoping for in our lives.

After using various methods to clear these trapped emotions, Kristen focused on us individually. Although we hadn’t met–or known about each other previously–she was really focusing on my heart center. As many of you know, I had a near-fatal heart attack four years ago, so the focus on my heart center was eerily accurate. Kristen showed me a few tools to work on clearing the energy blocks I have there, and I’ve been using them in the days since. I can say that the feeling of doing them gives me a lightness in my heart area, which is usually feeling pretty dense and heavy.  Besides the actual heart stoppage, I sustained quite a lot of trauma to my heart area from 40 minutes of CPR compressions, punctuated by 13 (yes 13!) shocks from the EMT’s Advanced Life Support defibrillators. Until this experience with Kristen’s energy healing techniques, I hadn’t yet discovered a methodology that addresses both the physical and emotional trauma that I carry in the middle of my chest. After feeling the difference, I am convinced that this is the way forward for me.

Kristen then led us all through an energy balancing routine from Donna Eden, a leader in the field of energy healing.  Below is a link to Eden’s Daily Energy Routine. Try it out for yourself!

The further I go down the rabbit hole of healing modalities, the more I realize how I could have been so “healthy” and still had a near-fatal heart attack at 53 years of age. I am more and more convinced that our trapped emotions are the festering seeds of disease in the body. Take it from someone who has died and was lucky enough to come back again–take care of your emotional blockages and clear your body of the harmful effects of stored trauma. As the saying goes, the body keeps the score. It’s up to us to even the playing field.

I encourage you to try out the Daily Energy Routine from Donna Eden, and check out Kristen at Openhearted Energy Healing. All you need to bring is an open mind.

Until next time

Scott and Lennart
